Sangeeta Darvekar Charitable Trust is a registered NGO and has the following projects running
1. We are working on primarily on prevention of Oral Cancer in India. Oral cancer is the most prevalent type of cancer in India and according to B.B.C and TATA MEMORIAL HOSPITAL it accounts for around 300,000 new cases every year (that is 40%) of all cancer. But this cancer is completely preventable. This can be done only with awareness on it's cause, it's looks, it's treatment and it's resultant problems.
We are creating this awareness by means of this website and by documentary in Hindi that we have made on Mouth cancer with interviews of
a) the patients suffering from Oral Cancer and
b) The doctors who are authorities on oral cancer.
This documentary highlights the problems of Tobacco Consumption. We have named this VCD "Tobacco Kills". We have priced it nominally Rs 50/- and have kept this VCD freely duplicable. We are distributing it throughout India and throughout the world.
We also hold regular camps on Mouth Cancer Awareness and have "Mouth cancer detection center" and "Tobacco de-addiction center".
2. We are running a Charitable Dental Clinic at Bhayandar East where the treatment cost is highly subsidized and poor people can also take costly Dental Treatments
3. We are also planning to set up a Charitable Clinic or a Hospital at Gholwad Taluka Dahanu, Dist. Thane, India. This is an area which is populated by the tribal community and they are extremely poor to afford any kind of medical facility. We have acquired a place for the same and our facility has started from 7th March 2010.
